As a person with a long term physical disability requiring the daily use of a wheelchair, I have used the services provided by A1 Wheelchairs for over two years. The provision of services have included loan of a trial wheelchair when repairing my primary wheelchair, measuring specs and supplying of a brand new power wheelchair (Frontier) and modifications to the Frontier to cater specifically for my needs (footrests, seat back, arm rests). They can repair and modify on the spot if it's not a major job which saves a lot of inconvenience for someone like myself relying on a major piece of personal equipment for mobility.

They are always prompt, courteous and they listen to what my specific needs are. An example is when Air New Zealand told me that my wheelchair would not fit into the hold of their aeroplanes because of its height, so A1 technicians modified the back of the seat so it could fold down and store easily onto the plane.

I am happy with their service delivery and have no hesitation in recommending the A1 team (Judy, Brent, Brian and Bruce) to anyone who may wish to use them in the future.

We have been dealing with Al Wheelchairs for the past seven years. During this time we have always found their service to be very prompt and efficient. As you can appreciate prompt service is a very important factor, being that I rely completely on my wheelchair for getting around. A1 have always been very promt at sending replacements when required and always quick to do repairs. We have always been kept well informed of progress, concerning parts and repairs.

Ray has been very happy with his Frontier 4X4. He finds it very versatile. Excellent around town, in the house and good for going up to the horses stables, rough terrain of the paddocks and to the track. When Ray requires another wheelchair we will definitely be getting another Frontier 4x4.

We highly recommend Al Wheelchairs and have always found them to be proffessional, friendly and very approachable and easy to deal with.

We have been associated with A1 Wheelchairs for at least 7 years now. I have found this company to be outstanding, in all respects because:
1. A solution has always been found to fix or modify gear specific to my son's unique needs. If an idea doesn't quite work on the first attempt, then modifications are made to ensure that the idea does work.

2. Gear is picked up and delivered back to our home. Same day service is provided for really urgent requirements.

3. The service is always prompt. Hold ups occur, only because parts are not held in NZ (by 3rd party suppliers) and therefore have to be ordered in from overseas. However, as soon as parts arrive, A1 promptly follow through with the job.

4. Communication between the client and A1 Wheelchairs is prompt and efficient. Phone calls and emails are regularly used. Appointments are adhered to.

5. I find the staff friendly, supportive and knowledgeable. I have the highest regard for Brian who has dealt with most of the repairs and modifications to my son's gear.

6. A1 deal with electronic technology as well as hard materials on equipment, so they are able to cover a wide range of maintenance of gear.

I have dealt with many reps and equipment specialists over the past 17 years. A1 are the only company that I have found to be knowledgeable in such a wide range of equipment. They actually repair gear and make modifications that suit the client. This is not a common feature. I have found in other companies, that they are prone to ask my advice as to what we should do to fix a piece of equipment and then have still got it wrong in terms of delivering anything that has been useful.

A1 are an essential part of the team of people who deal with my son's needs. I will always request that his gear is serviced by them, as they are the only provider so far who actually deliver the goods!!

Yours faithfully Ann Matthews

Over the past four years it has been my privilege to work collaboratively with A1 Wheelchairs to provide mobility scooters and wheelchairs to visitors of CD Field Days and the Manfield Garden Festival.

I am employed by Horizons Regional Council to address transport needs of people with disabilities who are unable to use public transport services. Specifically I manage the eight Total Mobility schemes across the Horizons region and health shuttles from the smaller centres to city hospitals.

Some years ago I recognised that there would be many people who, due to mobility issues, would be unable to attend CD Field Days. I imagined that there would be people who may never have had the opportunity to attend, while others may have been regular attendees who could no longer cope with the walking necessary to cover the event.

With little but this raw idea in mind, I approached some local mobility scooters suppliers.

The response I received from A1 was well beyond my expectations.

Their enthusiasm and willingness to be involved was evident from our first meeting and between us we put together a plan to make wheelchairs and scooters available, free of charge, on a pre-booked system for the 3 days of CD Field Days.

From the start A1 had a policy that no-one would be turned away and they have gone to extraordinary lengths to ensure this happens. From buying in new scooters from the suppliers for the event, to trips back to their premises to get more scooters for patrons who had not booked, but found on the day that they were not able to cope.

As awareness of the service has grown so have the numbers availing themselves of this opportunity. Each year we go through a process of de-brleflng and review and the service plan is revised for the up-coming year .

After a request from the organisers of the Manfield Garden Festival this servlce is now available at their annual 2 day event.

It is evldent that customer service is paramount within their company and the needs of each patron are taken into consideration to make their day as enjoyable as possible. This may be adding a leg support to a wheelchair for a person who has a leg in a cast to ensuring there are a range of different sized scooters available.

The product knowledge of the staff is excellent and I have even seen them fix a privately owned scooter which had broken down at the event, at no cost to the owner.

I frequently recommend this company to clients of mine and the feedback I receive has always been very complimentary.

The professionalism, product knowledge, empathy and willingness to go the extra distance displayed by the team at A1 Wheelchairs makes it very easy for me to highly recommend this company as a company with integrity and an understanding of the issues people with disabilities face.

I am happy to talk with you and I can be contacted on 06 9522874 or at Valda.patton@horizons.govt.nz

We have been in business as Subcontractors to Enable New Zealand for the past six years and have called on A1 Wheelchair services many times. Whether it is for advice, parts or their technical expertise , they have always been very obliging and always helpful. They make themselves available on weekends and after hours, which is most helpful to our clients and ourselves.

We like to get our clients mobile as soon as possible and it makes a huge difference dealing with a company with the same work ethic. Parts have always been available and sent immediately with good communication and excellent follow up service.

Yours sincerely

I have been associated with A1 Wheelchair Services for six years. The service I have received from them has been excellent.
They have come to change tyres and batteries after hours so I can keep mobile. On occasions they have lent me a powerchair when they have had to take mine away for servicing. I have never waited long for help to arrive.

I HAD A ACCIDENT IN JANUARY 2003 AND LOST BOTH MY LEGS ABOVE KNEES.
I HAVE BEEN A KEEN HUNTER FISHERMAN AND ALROUND OUTDOOR PERSON TILL MY ACCIDENT.
AFTER MY ACCIDENT I THOUGHT THAT I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO DO ALL THESE THING AGAIN
MY FIRST ELECTRIC WHEELCHAIR WAS A TDX 5 WHICH STARTED TO FALL APART AFTER 9 MONTHS.
I WAS TOLD THAT I COULD NOT DO THE THINGS I WAS TRYING TO WITH Tl-I TS CHAIR AND THAT I WAS CLASSED AS A EXTREME USER AND WAS THEN OFFERED A FRONTIER WHEELCHAIR FOR TRAIL.
THIS WHEELCHAIR HAS GIVEN ME BACK MY FREEDOM AND OPENED UP MY WHOLE LIFE AGAIN I CAN NOW GO HUNTING FISHING ENJOY THE OUTDOORS WITH MY PARTNER AND FAMILY.
I HA VE BEEN A HAURAKI DISTRICT COUNCILOR FOR THE LAST SIX YEARS AS PART OF MY DUTIES AS COUNCILOR I WAS INVOLVED IN FARM DRAINAGE AND ROADING WHICH MEANT I HAD TO GO OUT ON TO FARMS AND INSPECT DRAINAGE AND ON SIGHT TO INSPECT ROADS.
I WOULD NEVER BEEN ABLE TO DO THIS WITH THE TDX 5.
THE TIME I HAVE HAD THE FRONTIER WHEELCHAIR I HAD VERY LITTLE PROBLEMS WITH THEM OTHER THAN BATTERY'S WHEEL BEARINGS AND TYRES WHICH WOULD BE GENERAL RUNNING REPAIRS ANY WAY.
THE BACKUP SERVICE HAS UP GREAT NO COMPLAINTS.
HONESTLY IF THIS WHEELCHAIR WAS TAKEN OFF ME I WOULD NOT KNOW WHAT I WOULD DO I HAVE SEARCHED INTERNET AND HAVE NOT FOUND ANOTHER WHEELCHAIR THAT COMES CLOSE TO THIS CHAIR FOR ITS RUGGEDNESS AND USER FRIENDLINESS

I have been using machinery all my life and for the past 5 years since my neck accident I have been doing all my outside work in a Frontier wheel chair. The Frontier wheel chair I have used every day all day for five years without any problems and consider it to be one off the best machines that I have owned and have pleasure in recommending this to anyone wanting to do off the seal country work in any conditions as mine works in dry summer and mud and snow in the hard winters of St Bathans Centeral Otago as I am still farming.
